December is the recognition of the invasion of Pearl Harbor. Recently, Bob Munyon, resident of Gilman Park Assisted Living in Oregon City, Oregon took a few moments to share ‘his story’ and discuss the book, “The Fighting Fortieth: In War and Peace,” in which his service days are featured.
Bob was called to duty on December 26, 1941, spending nearly five years overseas helping to keep this world free. “The Air Force officer was instrumental in scheduling a series of B-24 heavy bomber attacks over the next two days, which resulted in the heaviest bomber attacks in the Pacific up to that time. He and his Lieutenant Colonel received Air Medals for their contributions.”
He moved to Gilman Park after a life of cattle ranching, a chicken farmer, instructor at University of California School of Agriculture, and worked in insurance securities. He was married more than 55 years to his wife, Helen, before she passed away in the late 1990’s. He is now near his daughter, Mary. He has 15 grandchildren.
Bob was also featured in the “Senor Community Living Report” section of the Clackamas Review Newspaper.
