The 2008 Georgie Award was presented to Dawn Neely, staff member of
Aspen Ridge Memory Care, at Central Oregon’s Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk on September 28. The Georgie Award was created by George Nazarian’s wife in his honor, who died of Alzheimer’s disease several years ago. It is awarded each year to an outstanding Central Oregon caregiver or volunteer, either professional or family.
Dawn Neely received several nominations for the award, all of which expressed her deep sense of caring, respect and loyalty for those in her care. Aspen Ridge’s Administrator stated: “Staff members like Dawn are what makes Aspen Ridge not just a memory care, but “home” for residents with dementia. Dawn is an example of what puts loved ones mind at ease knowing their family member is loved.” Dawn is a well-respected and much appreciated caregiver at Aspen Ridge Memory Care, where she has worked with Alzheimer's residents for seven years.
This was the second year an Aspen Ridge employee has received The Georgie Award. Myrtle Bigelow, Aspen Ridge Memory Care Activities Director was the 2007 recipient. Aspen Ridge Memory Care, Retirement and Assisted living staff members were a big part of the 535 walkers and 43 teams this year, with a donation of $7000 of the $65,000 raised by Central Oregon Alzheimer’s Association for the 2008 Memory Walk.
Dawn has served as a volunteer on the Memory Walk steering committee for several years and has participated as the host of the committee’s meetings at Aspen Ridge. Aspen Ridge families appreciate that they can count on Dawn to provide outstanding care and that she is always well informed about each resident. One nominator said, "You can tell that the residents really love her and feel safe when she is present." Congratulations to Dawn Neely, 2008 Georgie Award winner!
